Between 1873 and 1902, compressed-air powered trams were set in several French and Swiss cities. It was the first time compressed air was used for transportation. The process was invented by Louis Mékarski, a french engineer. First, the compressed air was produced in a factory and was then sent to the vehicle’s reservoirs through pipes. This technology was used during forty years, before it has been replaced by electric trams.
