In 1947, Jean Laigret, inventor of the vaccine against yellow fever, announced he would be able to produce oil from organic wastes. In his laboratory at the Tunis Pastor Institute, Jean Laigret identifies the bacterium that produces oil and processes various organic wastes into petroleum. At the time the newspapers spoke of a global energy revolution. Unfortunately the patent fell into oblivion.
