The mysterious island of Jules Verne

Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island mingles science and fantasy. The relation between humans and natural ressources is one of the main theme of the novel. Characters are running through technologies history, until metallurgy, chemistry and even electricity were mastered.
The novel also contains a very visionary quote about the potential applications of hydrogen.
“Yes, my friends, I believe that water will one day be employed as fuel, that hydrogen and oxygen, which constitute it, used singly or together, will furnish an inexhaustible source of heat and light of an intensity of which coal is not capable”.
